Styled Sassy

Hey y’all!!  I know I haven’t been around lately.  It seems like I have been down and out for the last two weeks or so.  If you follow me on snapchat (hillaryrhicks) or Instagram, you know I have moved us back in with my parents while I am looking for a house.  I was renting for years and then thought, why the hell am I giving some 20 year old trollop $1500 a month to live in a place that ultimately will never be mine.  Didn’t make any sense to me anymore so, instead of signing another lease, I put our stuff in storage and went back to my parents.

Now, don’t get my wrong my parents are A-maze-ing and I don’t know where I would be without their love and support.  But lets face it, going back ‘home’ in your 30s s horrible let alone with a child of your own.  This home buying process is taking much longer than I thought it would.  I know I made the right decision however, this period in the middle is really driving me insane.  Wanna hear something hysterical? There is a house across the street from my parents in foreclosure!!!  Such an amazing deal but I can see it now…..my mom peeking out the window “she’s home sonny!!!” It drives me even crazier when I think about it.  Needless to say, I have been in a little funk. See, it wasn’t until my late LATE 20’s that I began to except me for me….flaws and all!  Although I love myself like no other and I think I’m fabulous ?, I still get these days where I am just in an absolute funk. Not even a weeks worth of General Hospital or Big Brother can help.  Can’t anyone else relate?  So this is where I have been the past few weeks.  I am slowly getting myself back to good.

On another note, I am sharing this look because I am weirdly obsessed with graphic tees and I just think this “going out tee” is a riot.  Being in my late 30’s, a mother to an 8 year old and not going out very much, when I do go out, this is my attire.  Graphic, jeans and some heels.  You just can’t go wrong with this look.  Its perfect for the movies and dinner or even a night out with your girlfriends.

This tee is from Sub Urban Riot which has become one of my favorite companies for their graphic tees and sweatshirts.  I have also been carrying this Rebecca Minkoff (HUGE sale up to 60% off)  bag lately for that pop of color.  I love it because its the perfect size for your phone, chapstick, ID and some ‘go to hell’ money.

Who is super excited for the holiday weekend??  {me! me!} And the sales!!! Lets not forget the sales! I will be doing a post tomorrow evening or early Saturday morning with some amazing sales you wont want to miss.

Hi all! I know I have been MIA from social media lately. Even on Instagram. I am leaving for New Orleans on Monday and just getting a few last minute things together. I am however, shooting today or tomorrow so there will be a new blog post up soon. I haven’t forgotten about my blog. Just learning how to manage full time career, motherhood, and fashion blogger. When you think of the shirt dress, you think cool casual comfort.  I think I love the shirt dress simply because it reminds me of those early nights and late mornings with manfriend when I sleep in his button down (which only happened once ha!).  I think a women in a mans button down is so so sexy. Also, you can dress them up or down.  Going to a BBQ?  Shirt dress and flip flops.  Going out to dinner and drinks? Shirt dress with your favorite wedges or heels like I have on in my photos.  This shirt dress is from H&M and is the smoothest material ever.

I honestly love H&M because you can spend $100 and get so many awesome pieces that you can pair with so many things.  My mantra is always invest in shoes and bags.  Clothing, well you can go to H&M, Target, Forever 21, etc and find amazing pieces to work with.  This shirt dress was only $34 and also came in a few other colors. I just ordered a new pair of white sneaks!  Lets be honest here…no matter how much you love your heels, a brand spanking new pair of white sneaks are the absolute BEST!!! So, I will definitely be styling this dress and a few other shirt dresses I have with the sneaks so you can see how versatile these dresses are.

Oh its the weekend.  My absolute favorite time.  I get to sleep in passed 6 am although I usually end up waking up at 7 am.  My boy and I have somewhat of a routine on Saturday and Sunday morning.  We lay in bed when we first wake up watching whatever weekend morning cartoons are on.  Then we, in our pajamas usually, head up the street to the bagel shop and get out blueberry bagels toast with butter.   I love my weekend mornings with my favorite little man.

To me, summer is all about staying cool and fresh.  I love wearing easy, fun and comfy maxi dresses, especially this 30 something age has your hormones changing.   The best maxis are the ones you can dress up or dress down. Throw on your favorite flip flops, wedges or heels.  Either way, you are comfortable.

Yesterday was like one of those days where you think your on candid camera.  I mean someone is somewhere watching me just laughing.  Spilled coffee on my outfit, dropped a gallon of milk and burned my tongue on my extra hot White Chocolate Mocha.  Its days like that I have learned to just laugh at myself.  My dad always says, “don’t sweat the small stuff.  And its ALL small stuff.”  So, I changed my clothes, cleaned up the milk, and drank a lot of cold water to help my tongue.  All while listening to Lauryn Hill and laughing at all of this so called ‘small stuff’. I did however, have an awesome day on my second graders class trip to the zoo.  A day in the sun with friends? What beats that?

In the summer, I am always looking for comfortable looks.  My hormones are ever changing and the summer heat can cause a sister to sweat like a hooker in church.  If you have followed my Instagram, you know that I have a small (super big) obsession with wide legs.  Wide leg jeans or pants…it doesn’t matter. They are all amazing.  Wide legs make someone that is on the shorter side look taller and makes a tall person look even taller.  They also make you look extra lean which is one of my most favorite things especially when I still have a little baby weight (ha)!

I can’t get enough of these Bar II wide leg pants . They are so soft and definitely have an affordable price point.  They are currently on sale for under $40 (with another 20% off with the code SUMMER).  You can’t beat that for year round pants.  They have the cutest little pleats on the top front.  When I wear wide legs, I try to pair them with a top that is somewhat fitted.  This ruffle top I pair with them looks amazing with skinny jeans and stilettos too.  Lets face it…its better to shop for pieces we can pair with multiple things.  These two pieces are perfect for just that.
